Obituary of Jon "Kim" Johnson

Jon “Kim” Johnson, 79, of the town of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord on December 19^th, 2023.

Son of the late Don and Beth Johnson of Shickley, NE, he was born February 11^th, 1944, in York, NE, and graduated from Shickley High School. He then went on to pursue Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics and education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Kim’s employment with IBM brought him to Poughkeepsie, where he retired after 38 years as a computer programmer. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and his annual camping trips with his close friends. He was also a passionate Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan, and he enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife and close friends. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a dedicated volunteer at his church and some of his duties included acting as head usher, and greeter, preparing communion, and assisting in treasury.

Kim is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Susan Johnson, of the town of Poughkeepsie, who cared for him with love and grace throughout a prolonged illness.

He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Mike Delay of Grand Island, NE; his daughter Jennifer Rubino of Simsbury, CT; his daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Michael Kent of Pleasant Valley, NY; his daughter and son-in-law Tricia and Jeff Mool of Weaverville, NC; his stepson and daughter-in-law Keith and Jennifer Cannella of Wappingers Falls, NY and his stepson and daughter-in-law Matthew and Jennifer Cannella of Poughkeepsie, NY.

Additionally, he leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Remi, Anthony, Sal, Gabby, Jackson, Ryan, Maddy, and Christopher. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive their friends on Tuesday, December 26^h from 4-7 pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 27^th at 11:00 am at Faith Assembly of God, 25 Golf Club Lane, Poughkeepsie, NY. Interment will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.
