Obituary of German W. Alzamora

German W. Alzamora, 86, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on December 31, 2023. He was born on October 3, 1937, in Quito, Ecuador to the late Miguel and Carmela (Achig) Alzamora. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Gladys Alzamora.

He married his beloved wife of 65 years, Ana (Ortega) Alzamora on June 16, 1958, in Quito, Ecuador.

German immigrated to the United States on January 13, 1965, from Ecuador. He brought his family to the US where they briefly lived in Brooklyn, NY before settling in Poughkeepsie in 1969. German proudly became a US citizen in 2016.

German worked at IBM in the Manufacturing Department for 20 years. He was also a loved and respected Security Officer at Marist College for 19 years, retiring in 2018.

He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Wappingers Falls, NY, loved God, and was always grateful of life’s blessings.

German dedicated his life to provide for his family. Every chance he could, he shared his love of tennis, soccer, American football (he loved the NY Jets), and playing carom ball (pool game), his wife Ana Alzamora’s cooking, and hot sauce with his friends and family (especially great grand kids).

German is survived by his wife Ana Alzamora of Poughkeepsie, NY, daughter and son in-law Patricia and James Clifford of Roselle, NJ, daughter and son in-law Sandra and John Vavonese of Syracuse, NY, son Byron Alzamora of Poughkeepsie, NY, son and daughter in-law Matthew and Kyra Alzamora of Poughkeepsie, NY, son Cesar Alzamora of Poughkeepsie, NY, 5 grandchildren, 4 great- grandchildren and sisters Rosario Almeida, Olympia Alzamora, Odalia South along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Funeral services will immediately follow at the funeral home. Burial will then follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY.
