Obituary of Joseph Crawford
Joseph T. Crawford, 74, long time resident of Union, New Jersey, currently residing in Poughkeepsie, New York, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday December 24. Born on June 13, 1949 in Newburgh NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose Vincent Crawford and the grandson of Thomas and Katherine Vincent of Newburgh, New York.
Joe was raised in Newburgh, attended both St. Patrick’s Grammar School and High School, and was a 1970 graduate of Manhattan College. After college he was drafted into the US Army and spent 13 months in Pusan, Korea. His professional career began with the US Post Office in Manhattan, before moving on to AT&T in New Jersey in various management positions.
Joe always had a keen interest in music, loved New York City and Broadway, which he enjoyed his entire life. As a devoted fan of all things Broadway and the theater in general, he often took many trips around the northeast to various summer stock productions. He alsoloved to travel, beginning in 1959 when he and his family visited relatives in Tunisia, Italy and France. The travel bug carried over into his adult life and Joe visited many countries in the Far East and Europe.
Joe is survived by his brother Thomas and his wife Karen of Wappingers Falls, their children,spouses and 5 grandchildren. He is also survived by a son Daniel and a daughter Jean.
The Crawford family will be forever grateful to Joe’s aide, Patricia, at the Holiday Manor @Woodside who was his caregiver and became his friend in the last weeks of his life. We’d also like to thank Hudson Valley Hospice of Poughkeepsie for the outstanding care Joe received, also during these last few weeks.
His time being with his brother these last few months allowed them to relive early childhood memories and we are thankful for those memories. He will be missed. Per Joe’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Timothy Doyle Funeral Home in Poughkeepsie. His ashes will be interred with his parents in the Cedar Hill Mausoleum in Newburgh at the family’s convenience.
