Obituary of Edward William Jones
Edward William Jones, a veteran of World War II and longtime resident of Dutchess County, NY passed away on March 2, 2024. Ed, as he was known to many in the area, was born on April 18th, 1928 in Ashley, Pennsylvania. He was the son of William Edward Jones and Jeanette Hughes. He attended High School in Utica, NY before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Ed served in Taku and Tientsin, China, Guam, and Sasabo, Japan.
He shared amazing stories of his military service. He wrote many letters home to his future wife, Joan Marie Huss, describing his enlisted life. Ed was honorably discharged in October 1948.
On April 30th, 1949, he married Joan Marie Huss. They resided in Utica, NY. During his time in Utica, Ed was raising a family and working at General Electric Co. In 1964, he relocated his family to Poughkeepsie, NY where he began a career with IBM as a manufacturing engineer. He retired from IBM in 1990.
Ed was an antique car enthusiast. He thoroughly enjoyed automobile restoration and car shows. In addition to his love of antique cars, he created many beautiful stained glass pieces of art that he shared with his family.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and his parents. He is survived by his children, Jeanette (Thomas) Uhlig of Florida, Jeffrey (Michele) Jones of North Carolina, Diane (Ron) Stanton of Ulster County, NY, and Matthew Jones of Dutchess County, NY. He was a proud grandfather of his 12 surviving grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Ed was predeceased by a son, Brian Jones, a daughter, Mary Alice Hobart, and a grandson,
Danny Hobart.

His family has organized a private memorial service to honor Ed's life at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. On March 6th atv1pm.
