Obituary of Emagene Lyon
Emagene Lyon passed away on February 29, 2024, at the age of ninety-eight. Emagene was born to Raymond and Wilhelmina Niles on January 16, 1926. She grew up in Michigan City, Indiana, and moved to Poughkeepsie, New York where she met and married Gordon Lyon who preceded her in 1989. They raised their family and were long-time residents in Mahopac, NY. Additionally, they were active, long-time members of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Carmel, NY. Emagene was employed at Martini’s Variety Store in Mahopac and retired from Guideposts in Carmel. Together they have 2 daughters: Wendy Wright and Shari Mertlik who live in Poughkeepsie, NY, and a son, David Lyon, who lives in Boulder, Colorado. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Wendy and Kevin Wright, Shari, and Frank Mertlik, and David and Linda Lyon (deceased); her grandchildren: Frank Mertlik (Jennifer), Justin Mertlik (Mary), Ryan Mertlik, Adam Wright and Ashley Jollay (Nate); as well as her great-grandchildren: Saint Jollay, Monroe Jollay, Ryan J. Mertlik, Samuel Mertlik, and Matilda Mertlik.Two brothers Robert Niles and Henry Niles and one sister Mae Burbas, predeceased Emagene. Emagene loved the simple things in life. She was dedicated to her family first and foremost. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She loved her roles as Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend and cherished every minute spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cared so deeply for the people around her. She had a servant’s heart and always made people feel loved. She loved to make crafts, cook, and feed her extended family well, especially during the holidays and the weekly summer family picnics. She always found a way to smile, laugh, and live life well. She made an impact on many lives. She will be forever missed. Until we meet again.
