Obituary of David Barry

David Barry, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and United States Navy Veteran, passed away on March 17, 2024, at Vassar Brothers Hospital at the age of 75. Born on December 10, 1948, in Poughkeepsie, New York, David was the beloved son of George and Martha Barry. David dedicated his life to serving his community, first as a police officer in Wappinger Falls, NY, and later as a truck driver. His proudest moments were marrying his best friend, Mary Ann, in 1972, and embracing a devout Catholic faith. During the Vietnam War, David courageously served in the Navy aboard a nuclear submarine. He found joy in road trips, with a special fondness for Mystic Seaport in Connecticut and the submarine museum in New London. David is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann, their sons Brian and daughter-in-law Jessica of Pleasant Valley, and Scott of Pleasant Valley, his brother Donald of South Carolina, sister Gail of Wappinger Falls, and his cherished grandchildren Emma, and Gavin. He was predeceased by his son David, father George, mother Martha, and brothers Frank, Jeff, and Robert. A funeral service honoring David’s life will be held at Holy Trinity Church on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 10:00 am, followed by burial at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery with Military Honors. David will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, dedication, and faith will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
