Obituary of Rose Allen-Clark
Rose Etta “Betty” Allen-Clark (nee Gleason), aged 97, passed away on June 26, 2024, in Poughkeepsie, New York. Born and raised in the same city, Betty dedicated 32 years of her life to St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, working across various departments including Labor and Delivery, Med Surg, and Rehab. She was a graduate of Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School and later, the Hudson River State Hospital School of Nursing.
Betty was a devout member of the First Congregational Church in Poughkeepsie, where she served in various capacities including Trustee, Deacon, Church Clerk, and member of the Gifts and Memorial Committee for over seventy years. Her Faith and dedication to her church and community were profound and unwavering.
A lover of mysteries, Betty was an avid reader and enjoyed British TV programs, classical music and operas. She was known for her daily walks, promoting healthy living habits among her friends and fellow residents at the Vassar Warner Home. Betty served as a trusted friend and confidante to many she knew.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Rose Lewis Gleason; her first husband, Raymond E. Allen, who was the love of her life, and her second husband, K. William Clark and her brother, Thomas Gleason Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Milczewski (Ray) of Port Orange, Fl, and Robin Durmiaki of Poughkeepsie, NY; her son, Dr. Timothy Allen (Lisa) of Lancaster, PA; Grandchildren Kimberly Kilmer, Andrew Kilmer, Rick Durmiaki, Tammy Amery, Nicholas Allen, and Amanda Allen; Great-Grandchildren Mariah Ahlstrom, Jayden Ahlstrom, Dylan Amery, Taylor Amery, Johan “Jak” Kilmer, Hayden Kilmer, Jane Kilmer, and Ahron Kilmer; her sister, Lillian “Dolly” Dunn; and her special Nieces’ Rosemary Barrett, Katie Gleason and nephew Thomas Gleason.
A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, located at 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, New York 12603, on Saturday, July 20, 2024 From 12-3pm. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in her memory. Betty’s legacy of kindness, dedication and service will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
