Obituary of Joseph D Aguiar
Joseph Daniel Aguiar, 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, on July 23, 2024. Joe was born in Beacon, NY on March 4, 1938 to Lawrence Aguiar and Katherine Zaworotiuk Aguiar. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dana, whom he loved deeply and to whom his love and commitment was evident to all. He is also survived by his daughters Jodie Aguiar Bryson (Ron), of Wappinger Falls, and Sarah Aguiar Ramsay (James), of West Springfield, VA and sons Matthew Aguiar (Johanna) of Poughkeepsie and Joseph L. Aguiar (Paola) of Stuttgart, Germany, and his sisters Lorraine Youlio, Claudia Archimede, and Christine Masseo. His oldest son, Ryan Daniel Aguiar predeceased him in 2021. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, Casey and Alexis Aguiar, Sawyer and Emma Bryson, Josiah, Joseph, Rebekah, and Rachel Ramsay, and Mateo, Elena, Sofia, and Emma Aguiar. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly and would speak highly of them and show pictures to anyone who would listen.
Joe was raised in Beacon, NY, and attended St Joachim’s Catholic School and then Beacon High School, graduating in 1956. He was a career salesman, a profession he loved and in which he attained much success and accolades; he was once told he could sell ice to an Eskimo. After retiring from sales, he worked as a courier for 12 years, finally fully retiring at age 84, after working for 70 years. He had great mechanical and carpentry aptitude and could fix any item that was broken, from cars to can openers, and build and repair most anything. He was a big fan of duct tape and gorilla glue. His most recent project was restoring his beloved 1959 Jim Dandy tractor in his garage workshop where he spent many hours in his retirement years with his good friend and neighbor, Jim McGurl.
Joe was known to have strong opinions on just about everything, especially politics, world affairs, and health issues, and liked nothing better than to passionately discuss these topics with others at every possible opportunity. He obtained his pilot’s license in his 20s and especially loved flying a piper cub plane over the Hudson Valley. He loved camping with his family in earlier years, was an avid reader, and loved watching movies, particularly older movies from the Classical Hollywood era like Casablanca, The African Queen, or any war movie. He had a great sense of humor and loved to get people going. He will be remembered as a man who lived his life to the fullest and who possessed an inspiring work ethic to the very last hour of his life.
Joe was a very devoted Christian and would want everyone to know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the same personal way in which he did.
Calling hours will be from 4-8 pm on Monday, July 29, at the Timothy Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie NY. A service for Joe will be on Tuesday, July 30 at 11:00 am at The Gathering at Faith Assembly, 25 Golf Club Lane, Poughkeepsie, NY.
