Garifalia Anghelis (“Litsa”), 90, of Poughkeepsie, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. Litsa was born in Athens, Greece, on December 5, 1933, to Kyriakos and Zoe Giakoumis.
On November 22, 1963, Garifalia married Dr. Basil Anghelis, who predeceased her in 2006, as did her twin sister, Thalia Mercury, in 2002.
Litsa is survived by her son Michael, daughter-in-law Demetra, and nephews Meach and George Klimi.
Litsa had been a local resident since 1969, having previously lived in Winnipeg, Canada, and Athens, Greece. She graduated from Dutchess Community College in 1979 with a degree in Commercial Art and worked as a commercial artist at Hamilton Reproductions and Bock Florist in Poughkeepsie. Additionally, she served as a volunteer at Vassar Brothers Hospital for over 25 years and volunteered at Valkill. She was a devout member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church in Poughkeepsie.
