Obituary of Gladys Welslau Bierce

Gladys W. Bierce,  a resident of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024. She was 95.  

Born on December 4, 1928, in Hartford, CT. She was the daughter of Fred and Bertha Welslau. 

Mrs. Bierce is survived by beloved daughters Anne Bierce of Poughkeepsie and Carol Gorbecki (John) of Jupiter, Florida, Granddaughter Kimberly Wellington (Anton) of Riverdale, Bronx, NY.

Mrs. Bierce attended Mt. Holyoke College and received a bachelor's degree with dual majors in math and economics. She retired after 17 years as administrative assistant for New York Unemployment Hearings.

Mrs. Bierce was a long-time member of Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church and served on many of its committees and was very active in the United Methodist Women’s group. In addition to church activities Gladys enjoyed the company of her cats and spent many hours pursuing crafts of all types.

Visitation will be held Thursday August 1, 2024, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home located at 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie, NY from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral services will take place August 2, 2024, at 10:00am at Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church. A burial will be held at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, Dutchess Outreach, or Dutchess County SPCA.
