Obituary of Ruby Nuccio

Ruby A. Nuccio, age 96, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2024 at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital where she had received excellent care. She was born on December 30,1927, in Duck Mountain, Manitoba, Canada to Ida Classen and James Nelson.

Her family soon moved to The Pas, Manitoba where Ruby lived an exciting life with her family. Ruby would tease her young daughters by pointing out her home town was on all the world globes while theirs was not. She learned cooking from her mother and made the best pie crust and mashed potatoes with gravy.

Her future husband, Carlo was stationed in The Pas during WWII where they met, fell in love and married on May 8, 1945. Ruby travelled by train to Brooklyn, NY to live with her in-laws until Carlo was discharged from the Army. Every weekend on furlough he would hitchhike from his NJ base to visit her. Ruby learned the fine art of Italian cooking from her wonderful mother-in-law, Rose. Ruby made the best sauce and meatballs enjoyed on many Sunday family dinners.

Ruby is predeceased by her three wonderful brothers, Earl, Clifford and Loren. Ruby would always say if you were lost in the wild you would want her brother Earl with you. She said he could survive anywhere.

Ruby was a parishioner of Holy Trinity since 1961. She made sure all her children made their sacraments and she passed on her great love of God.

Ruby is survived by her six daughters: Rose Piazza (William), Barbara Dunn (Daniel), Linda Dapolito (Victor), Denise Catizone (John), Mary Warner (Dave) and Amanda Nuccio (Claude). Ruby loved her grandchildren, Brian (Heidi), Stephanie (Lathrop), Nicholas, Christine (Christian), Rosie (Ryan), Allison, Christian, Ryan, Rachel, David, Lainey and Gavin and her great grandchildren, Samantha, Justin, Madison, Landon and Avery.

Ruby was predeceased by her loving husband Carlo Nuccio in 1996, her only son Donny in 1959 and her son in law William Piazza in 2022.

The family ask for donations to Hudson Valley Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
