Obituary of Charles W. Gardiner

Charles W. Gardiner, 97, of Hyde Park, NY passed away on August 7, 2024, at his home
with his family by his side. He was born in Kingston, NY on October 1, 1926, the son of
Charles R. Gardiner and Mary (Jones) Gardiner.
He was drafted and served in the Armed Forces during WWII (1944-1946), as a Private
First Class in the Service Company 127th Infantry. He was initially stationed in the
Philippine Islands and later with the Occupational Troops in Japan.
On August 23, 1947, at the Hyde Park Reformed Church, he married Barbara Freal. She
predeceased him in 2002.
In 1990, after a long career at IBM East Fishkill, he retired. He always enjoyed being
outdoors and working in his yard. He was an avid fisherman and hunter though his true
hobby was photography. Charles was a generous and loving son, husband, brother,
father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by
everyone.
Survivors include his daughters Marianne Ghiotti (Lou) and Nancy Patsey (Ed); he was
predeceased by his daughter Marie Gardner (Ralph); his six grandchildren include
Christine and Michelle Ghiotti, Erin and Matthew Patsey, and Jacqueline and Melissa
Gardner; and nine great-grandchildren Brody and Conor Tenbrock, Kayden Patsey, Elias
Maillet, Gavin and Maya Dixit, Auston, Juston and Daniel Stanhope. He was
predeceased by his granddaughter Kerrianne Gardner-Dixit, his sisters Margaret Butler
and Shirley Cady, and his brother Robert Conner.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private service will be held
at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to
Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation, 80 Washington Street, Suite 204, Poughkeepsie, NY
12601.
