Obituary of Teresa Milano

Teresa M. Milano passed away quietly with grace and dignity on Sunday September 1, 2024 11 days shy of her 101 st birthday. Tessie was a sister to 9 Versace siblings; a devoted wife to Dominick until he predeceased her in 2012; a loving mother to Donna (and her husband Jim Baxter); a caring aunt; a loyal friend; a supportive and engaged neighbor; a true positive spirit. Teresa was married while an employee of the Stardust Factory where she sewed women’s nightgowns and underwear. Consequently, she became the family seamstress, making, repairing, or altering clothing for nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters. During Covid-19 she spent countless hours on her Singer sewing machine making over 200 face masks. She had been a volunteer in the Emergency Room at Vassar Brothers Hospital and was then hired at the hospital snack bar called “The Cupboard.” She eventually retired from the Arlington Central School District after many years of working in the school kitchen at what was first the High School and then the Middle School building. She started as a server and advanced to Cook-Manager. As a result of all the paperwork and inventory involved, Tess became a whizz with numbers. During her lifetime, she tolerated barrels of home-made wine, preserved eggplant and pounds of drying provolone cheeses in the basement. She became known for making a carrot salad that was commonly referred to as “carrots Milano”. And people still talk about the chocolate cupcakes with a mountain of icing. Over the years, Dom and Tess opened their home to each of their mothers, assorted relatives and many of Donna’s college friends. Tess and Dom traveled extensively in the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s. They visited countries on 5 continents: including, England, Ireland, Italy, China, Russia, Poland, Germany, Austria, Bolivia, Morocco, etc, etc., and many US states including Alaska and Hawaii. Since 2020 Tess loved watching the Gameshow channel and “Everybody Loves Raymond” especially if she could watch while on her porch. She enjoyed Frank Sinatra, Tony Danza, Bette Davis and Barbara Stanwyck as well as Cher and Lady Gaga. Send her a card with a lottery scratch off and she was delighted. The drive-by for her 100 th birthday last year was unforgettable. An act of serendipity for which the memory will remain forever. We are eternally grateful to all those who continued to call or send cards and made her happy. Funeral Arrangments will be private and at the convenience of the Family
