Obituary of Jean M Spear
Jean M. Spear, 91, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024 at home with her family by her side. She found much joy her last years in having a special bond with her great granddaughter, Halle, whom she adored along with Willie, her beloved cat who was always by her side. She expressed happiness each day that she was able to be in her own home with family caring for her.
Jean was born on January 26, 1933 in Rockland, Maine, to Arlene and Raymond Moran. She married Erwin Spear, also from Rockland and they relocated to the Hudson Valley for Erwin’s employment with IBM. He predeceased her after 58 years of marriage.
When her children were young she was an active Girl Scout troop leader and led many activities and trips. This translated to a lifelong interest in travel. She would plan trips (before the internet) all year long and then travel in the summer with her family members. She traveled all through Europe, and especially enjoyed the British Isles and visiting English gardens.
She was an avid cook and enjoyed gardening, reading, and walking. In the retirement house Erwin built, they enjoyed many special family times and constant visits from their grandchildren that lived next door.
During the many years she worked as an office manager at a local veterinary hospital, she was a champion of finding homes for stray animals and helped, with empathy, the elderly that had pet challenges. She was a constant supporter of many causes that helped the underserved.
She will be greatly missed by her family and those that knew her.
She is survived by her daughters Linda LoGiurato (Terrence) of Salt Point, NY, Sandra Spooner (Leonard) of Mahtomedi, MN, Kathleen El Naccash of Durham, NC and a son Kevin Spear (Helen) of LaJolla, CA . Jean is also survived by her grandchildren: Daniel LoGiurato (Caitlin), Brendan LoGiurato (Danielle), Nicole Kizer, Michael Spooner, Lily El Naccash and five great grandchildren.
At Jean’s request, a private service will be held by her family. A special thank you is extended to Hudson Valley Hospice and the caregivers that helped provide care and comfort for her.
