Dear Alice and family. The news of Peter's passing was slow to reach us and we are deeply sorry for this delay. You and Peter and the family were so much a part of our lives and our daughters remember him fondly. I taught with Peter for over 30 years at Marist and we shared many great experiences together both in classes and meetings and trips together.
He was a wonderful colleague.
With much affection,
Vince and Marianne Toscano

Going to miss Uncle Pete and his Florida winter trips. Loved getting to spend time with him during these visits. He was as genuine as they come. Feel blessed to have him as my uncle. Difficult to not be able to be there with the family to celebrate him but you all will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I was in the second year of the Bridge Program in 1974-1975 with Our Lady of Lourdes High School. Dr. O’Keefe taught my senior year history class- my love of history came from that class. Julie Krieger

My sincere love and prayers go out to the O'Keefe family. Difficult for me not to be able to attend, "Big Pete's" services, but I'm hoping these words will find you some comfort.
I learned of Pete's passing yesterday from Karen. As I'm sure you're aware, he was very dear to us. The bond our father, Tom, had with him was that of a brotherly kinship and that love extended to us as well.
During our conversation, Karen shared with me a story that reinforced what a special loving and loyal friendship they had along with his love for our family.
Pete was present with Karen and our mother, when our father passed away at the hospital, after life saving efforts were unsuccessful. As the hospital staff walked out, Pete recognized the staff left our father in a state that lacked dignity.
Pete immediately summoned the staff back into the room and demanded they show him respect and honor his existence. Warms my heart to learn what he did in that moment.
My personal reflections on Pete are that he always made me feel like I was the most important person in the room. I believe he accomplished this through his stellar active listening skills e.g. open ended questions, minimal encouragers, paraphrasing, while maintaining direct eye contact letting me know he was fully engaged. Needless to say, he always made me feel like I mattered and was special.
Take solace in knowing "Big Pete" was one of the Greats! His legacy is stained in the hearts of not only his family but the many lives and loved ones that he touched.
Peace and love to you all.

I was one of the students in the inaugural Bridge program. Dr O’Keefe was our history professor and mentor; I later took other classes from him at Marist and enjoyed his thoughtful lectures and discussions. Years later I had the pleasure of running into him in my neighborhood as one of his buddies lived up the street from me! Truly a wonderful personality. My condolences to all the family.

Peter was one of my very favorite Marist faculty. He was my mentor and my friend. I have missed him so much since his retirement. It was such a treat when he stopped by to visit after his Kilimanjaro trip to show me the article about his climb.
My deepest sympathy to his family. Just know his Marist family shares your sadness at his passing.

My best memory from Marist was going to one of Dr O'Keefe's classes and seeing Pete Seger who sang songs and told stories for the whole beautiful hour.
