Obituary of Evangeline Venetis
Evangeline “Lee” Frangk-Venetis passed at The Fountains in Millbrook on September 29, 2024. Lee was born, June 8, 1926 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Helen Tzortzakis and Stelio Frangk and lived her 98 years there with 71 of those years married to Manuel “Mike” Venetis whom she wed on Jan. 2, 1946 until his death on Oct. 16, 2017. Lee was very active as a member of Ladies Philoptochos Society at the Greek Church and a member of First Duchess Quilters. Not to mention, her beloved Sew Whats sewing group. Lee and Mike spent many years owning and running the Hub Restaurant in Red Oaks Mill. Lee is predeceased by her husband, Mike, her sisters, Katherine Vallas, Renee Piney and her brother, Anthony Frangk. She is survived by her 3 children, Tim Venetis, Steve Venetis and wife, Michele, Tina Venetis and husband, Dan DeLapp. She is also survived her 4 grandchildren, Ian Wachowiak, and wife, Camden, their daughter, Cora, Jordan Venetis and husband, Blair Roddenberry, Clay Venetis and wife, Savannah Fletcher, their son, Elio and Stephanie DeLapp, her son, Jaxson. Lee is also survived by her nephew, Stan Frangk and wife, Debbie and their 3 children and partners, Denise and Sean, Andrea and Josh and Stephen and Shelby. Lee’s grandchildren have summed up their Yia Yia’s life… Jordan, “Yia Yia had a softness that could hold you and heal you. She was also your fiercest champion. She enjoyed every single day of her beautiful life and implored we all do the same.” Clay, “Lee defined what it meant to be a Greek-American in the Greatest Generation.” Ian, “My Yia Yia was embroidered with happiness. Pure, unadulterated joy with splashes of presence. The memories of her comfort will warm me on the gloomiest of days.” Funeral service will be Thursday, October 3, 11am to 2pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Entombment will take place at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
