Obituary of Ruth Irene Forrest

Ruth Irene Forrest died at the age of 93 on November 12, 2024, at the home of her daughter Debbie

Greco and husband Sam, where she resided in her later years.  

She was born on April 15, 1931, and raised in Asheville, NC, daughter of James Bergen Anders and

Florence Icenhour Anders. She was a 1949 graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School. After High school she went to work in the Nayy Department in Washington, DC where she met her future husband, George Forrest. After they married, they moved to Pleasant Valley, NY where they had 10 children within 11 years – including triplets. Ruth was the president of The Twin Mothers Club, enjoyed bowling, was an excellent seamstress, and worked several jobs outside the home when her children got older.  

Her family has many fond memories of the wonderful dinners she prepared every day for her large family and friends. 

Surviving are her children George and Marie Forrest of Raleigh, NC, Debbie and Sam Greco of Poughkeepsie NY, Dawn Forrest of Washington NC , Brenda Pagano of Hyde Park, NY, Brad and Debbie Forrest of Poughkeepsie, NY, Barbara and Bill Germiller of Raleigh NC, Gail Forrest of Raleigh NC, Ruth Armstrong of Dedham MA, Glenn & Paula Forrest of Bedford VA, and her nephew Ken Long of Elizabethton TN. Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Billy Forrest, and her sister Vivian Long and nephew J.B. Long. She was the proud Mammaw of 31 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.  

The family will be having a celebration of life at a later date.
