Obituary of Richard Walker

Richard A. Walker, 70 of Hopewell Junction, passed away on November 17, 2024, after a short illness.  Richard was born in the Bronx on April 9, 1954, and grew up with his mother, Marie Elizabeth Fowler and family.  He was the nephew of Monsignor Eugene Fowler.

Richard worked as a police officer in the Mount Vernon police department before joining IBM where he retired in 2002 from the specialized, Accounting Department. Richard was a graduate of IONA College and of Mount Saint Michael's Academy High School in the Bronx. Richard was a super fan of the Yankees and a (reluctant) fan of the NY Giants and Jets. Richard loved dogs, and was involved with Puppies Behind Bars for 20 plus years, where his dedication to helping veterans and first responders helped inspire their Dogs Tags program.

Richard is survived by his daughter Marie and son in-law Gerald Hughes, granddaughter Mary Hughes, grandson Finn Hughes and close friend Donna Conway-Pierson.

A celebration of life service will be held at St John’s Lutheran Church Poughkeepsie, after the first of the year. For additional information and date, refer to this site or please call the church.
