Obituary of Stephen Wood
Son, brother, uncle, father, and grandfather - A man who was resilient, who loved hard, and
was well loved himself. A hardworking man, tough and true.
On November 20th, 2024 at the age of 61 Stephen Michael Wood Jr. lost their life. His
unexpected departure from a tragic fall has left a void that can never be filled.
Stephen was born at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, New York on March 19th,
1963 to Stephen Michael Wood and Arlene Mildred Swartz-Louis.
Stephen was known to many as Bear, Woody, Big Steve, and even Mr.Hammer. Big Steve
was more than just a father; he was a guiding light, a source of unwavering support, and a
beacon of love and kindness. His infectious smile and generous spirit touched the lives of
everyone he met. He had the ability to make anyone feel welcomed and valued. He didn’t judge
anyone by their lifestyle. He had a big heart and welcomed everyone with open arms.
Big Steve had many great qualities and talents. If you couldn’t find him spending time with the
ones he loved you could find him working. Steve had a passion for construction since an early teen, he had his
own business SNL Roofing. Anything you needed to fix houses or cars he was there to help.
He enjoyed fishing, had a love for pit bulls, and was always asking for something sweet like
cookies and milk.
Big Steve leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion; he’s survived by his devoted
family. His siblings; Grace, Marion, Joel (Chandra), Steve, Adam, and Stephanie (Jamel), the
mother of his children Deborah “Debbie” Dionysius, his girlfriend of 12 years Cora Morton, his
children; Jason (Jenn), Naderia, Louis “King Louie” (Megan), Arlene “Mamagirl”, and Melissa
“Chopper”, his grandchildren; Adriana, Antonio, Kartier, Aria, Amara, and Elias, his fur grand
baby Beleazy, and a host of cousin's, nieces, nephews, and everyone he considered family
off of the strength of love. He was predeceased by his parents. His memory will always be
cherished by those who loved him.
A celebration of his life will be held on November 30th, 2024 at Bethel Church 91 Hooker
Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601, viewing from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm and service from 12:30 pm
to 2:00 pm. A repass to follow where we will gather to honor and remember the beautiful moments
we shared with him.
