Obituary of Mary Anne Roberts
Mary Anne Roberts passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024. She was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, on August 17, 1931, to Anthony and Laura Arico. She graduated from Poughkeepsie High School, where she met her husband, Anthony Roberts. They married on June 29, 1952 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, and started their marriage in Norfolk, VA while Anthony served in the Navy before returning home to Poughkeepsie. For the majority of her long career, Mary Anne proudly worked as a legal secretary for Dutchess County Social Services, staying in touch with many former co-workers long after her retirement in 1996. She had a great joy for life, and was a long-time bowling league member, a talented crocheter whose beautiful works will long be treasured, and an avid reader whose love of books has been passed down to her children and grandchildren. She would regularly take day and weekend trips with her husband, close friends, and family, including an annual trip to Stockbridge with her sister. She was a wonderful friend and hostess and would love chatting at length over a hot cup of tea and cookies. Above all else, Mary Anne’s greatest joy was found at the frequent family gatherings surrounded by her family, and she absolutely doted on her grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Survivors include her loving children, David A. Roberts, Sr. (Ann Marie) and Cheryl Quirk. Mary Anne is also survived by her grandchildren, Lisa Horn (Eric), David Roberts, Jr. (Lia), Christine Sisco (Jacqueline), Kelly Quirk, and Evan Quirk, as well as her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Alexander Horn, and Andrew and Brielle Sisco. She is survived by her sister-in-law Gloria Arico and brother-in-law Edmond Roberts, several nieces and nephews, best friend Lorraine Prisco, and many other friends. Mary Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband Anthony, sister Loretta Mitchell, son-in-law Kerry Quirk, brother Ernest Arico, Sr., sisters-in-law Louise Roberts and Patricia Roberts, and nephew Ernest Arico, Jr. Calling hours will be from 2-4 pm on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave, Poughkeepsie NY, 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 10 am at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY, 12603, followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 171 Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
