Patricia Aber

Obituary of Patricia Aber

Patricia Frances Theresa Volk Lucey Aber, 79, of Pleasant Valley, NY, died on December 26, 2024, surrounded by her favorite people in the world—her family. Pat was born on July 27, 1945, to Steve and Veronica (Adam) Volk in Drake, North Dakota. She met her first husband, Paul Lucey, while he was stationed at the Air Force Base in Minot. Together, they started their family and moved to Albany, New York. In 1977, they relocated to Poughkeepsie, NY.

In 1987, Pat married the love of her life, Gary Aber, who survives her. She is also survived by her three daughters: Paula Lucey Pennisi (Tony), Cyndi Lucey Martin (Fred Spokas), and Laura Lucey Baratta (Wayne). Her grandchildren include Nikolas Gattine (Bella), Marlena Gattine-Suarez (Michael), Matthew Pennisi (Katelyn), Alex Pennisi, Marisa Albrecht (Steven), Tyler Martin (Johana), Cristian Martin (Jenna), Nina Martin, Jade Baratta, Austin Baratta, and Dylan Baratta. Her great-grandchildren are Zoe Gattine-Jones, Nikolas Mateo Gattine, Mason Black, Landon Albrecht, and Averee Albrecht.

Pat is also survived by three brothers: Butch Volk, Douglas Volk, and Virgil Volk. Other surviving family members include her brothers-in-law Ken Guynup, Wayne Heatherly, and Bryan Aber; her sisters-in-law Debbie Volk, Terry Volk, Barbara Aber Ryan; and Suzanne Aber; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents; her baby boy, Patrick Lucey; her brother, Richard Volk, who died in Vietnam; her sisters Angie Blonigen (Clarence), Loretta Puppe (Donald), Joyce Keys (Jim), Gladys Paulson (Bill), and Veronica; her mother-in-law, Gertrude Aber and father-in-law Robert Aber;  and her brothers-in-law David Aber and Sean Ryan.

Pat predeceased her sister Beatrice Heatherly, by two days.

Pat retired from Thomas Gleason Construction Company after 25 faithful years, to dedicate herself to being a full-time grandmother—a role she embraced wholeheartedly and never regretted. She was an extraordinary mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wife who selflessly devoted herself to her family.  Pat was like that with many people with whom she wasn’t related to as well. Everybody should have a Pat in their life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local Lions Club, Saint Jude’s, ARC, all local fire departments or local VFW or American Legion Posts. Pat would have been honored to know that people performed acts of kindness and inclusion in her honor because that’s exactly who she was and how she lived her life.
