Obituary of William Longfield
William [ Bill ] Longfield from Lagrange and formally from Poughkeepsie was called home Monday January 6. He was a loving husband, father, Popi, uncle, brother- in- law, and friend. He was a medic in the Army serving his country from 1961 until honorable discharge in 1967. When he returned home, he went back to his job at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center until his retirement in 1999.
William is survived at home by his wife of 58 years Mary [Yergey]. His daughter Melissa [ Pantaline ] and her husband John.
His son Brian and two grandkids John Jr and Meghan Rose. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law Russell Yergey Jr and sister-in-law Sharlene Calabro not to mention numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents William Sr and Olive Longfield as well as his sister Mary and Brother-in-law Tony Scano, sister-in-law's Patricia Yergey ,Carolyn King, and brother-in-law Richard Yergey.
Bill was an avid New York Yankees, Boston Celtic, Ohio State and Army football fan. William served as the chaplain for his American Legion post 1302 Poughkeepsie. He also was parishioner as well as an usher and Eucharistic minister at St Mary's Poughkeepsie then St. Katerie. His love of friends and holidays will not be forgotten, and only were matched by the love he had for his wife and family.
There are no calling hours as William has been cremated and the family will hold a private funeral at a later date.
