Obituary of Sharon Lyons
Sharon Ruth Lyons
Sharon Ruth Lyons, 75, of Pleasant Valley, passed away after a long illness January 6, 2025,
with family at her side. Born on December 9, 1949, in Summit, New Jersey, she was the
daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy (Petrat) Siefert.
Sharon graduated from Pope Pius XII High School, Passaic New Jersey, in 1967. She also
attended Bloomfield College. Sharon worked in many fields throughout her life, all while raising
three children, but was most proud to have retired from the United States Postal Service after
serving for over twenty years as a mail carrier.
Outside of her professional life, Sharon was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was so proud of and loved to brag
about her children and grandchildren, attending sporting events, plays, dance recitals, and
graduations whenever she had the opportunity.
She was a regular blood donor, Mets fan, avid Hallmark Channel watcher, and lover of animals,
but her true passion was her cherished Dalmatians. For over 40 years, she was the owner of
Erin Dalmatians, breeding or owning over 190 Champions. In addition, she was certified to
judge over 100 different dog breeds. She was a member of the Dalmatian Club of America, the
Dalmatian Club of Greater New York, and the Mid-Hudson Kennel Club.
Sharon is survived by her children, Brendan and his wife, Diane, Sean and his wife, Sara,
Meghan and her husband, Joe; her grandchildren, Bailey (Dre), Kevin, Emily, Grace, Preston,
and Gabi; her brother Walter; and her former spouse, John Lyons.
Sharon’s family would like to express their gratitude to her home health aides, especially Junie,
who lovingly cared for her for nearly three years, and to the nurses at Mid-Hudson Regional
Hospital. Sharon’s desire to help others led to her anatomical donation to the Harvard Brain Tissue
Resource Center.
A memorial service to celebrate Sharon’s life will be held from 2:00-4:00 pm on Sunday,
February 23, 2025, at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie,
NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Association for
Frontotemporal Degeneration, at theaftd.org, or the Dalmatian Club of America Foundation, at
dcaf.org, in Sharon's memory.
