Obituary of John A Baker

John Arthur Baker Sr., 65, of Poughkeepsie, New York, passed away peacefully on January 8th,
2025, at the ICU of Vassar Brothers Medical Center, surrounded by his family and close
friends. Born on November 3rd, 1959, in Brockton, MA, John was the beloved husband of Selina
Baker, cherished Father to John Baker Jr., Aimee (Baker) Sabado, Samantha Baker, and proud
Father-in-law to Isaac Sabado.
John was a devoted worker. Though he did not finish school he proved to everyone that he was
an excellent businessman when he applied everything, he learned from all his life experiences
and then JBS Services Inc. came to fruition.
John’s business slogan: “Taking the headaches away from Landlords”. He lived up to this slogan
for every landlord he ever served. Landlords depended on him for almost everything and he
always delivered.
John was a devoted New England Patriots and Red Sox fan. He loved his Patriots, and he and
Selina would always have their annual Superbowl party at their home with close friends. John
knows all their friends will abuse him as he is the only Patriots fan among them, but he loves the
company and the fun they bring.
John was a ray of sunshine everywhere he went. He was a joker because he loved to laugh and
make others laugh. One of the many things that made him and Selina the perfect fit. They both
love to laugh and make others laugh. It was tough not to know when John Baker entered the

room. His laughter was infectious, and his beautiful smile was his trademark. He was a kind-
hearted man who always looked for ways to help others even when it meant sacrificing some

things that his family needed. He was a very loving man to his family especially to his wife
Selina who was his world. He was a true Man of God and his life and personality reflected that
every single day. John loved his Mom and Dad very much. He made sure his Mom knew how
much he loved her especially after his Dad passed away.
John is survived by his wife of 19 years, Selina Baker, his son from his first marriage John Baker
Jr., their daughters Aimee Baker Sabado and her husband Isaac Sabado, and their youngest
daughter Samantha Baker, and her boyfriend Dennis Mann, his beloved dogs Boo and Bando.
His Mom Misty Baker of MA, his older brother Peter Baker and wife Sandy Baker, his older
sister Susan Sahovey and husband Barry Sahovey, his twin brother Jim Baker and wife Elaine
Baker and his youngest sister Julie Baker Summers and husband Dennis Summers, and his
nieces and nephews.
John was Preceded in Death By: Rev. James Baker, John’s Father.
• The family will hold a Celebration of Life at The Gathering at Faith Assembly on January
13th, from 4pm.
