We just read today in the Journal that Edith died. She sure did live a good long life and we praise God for it. We thankfully remember her attending Ruth's 90th birthday party. I'm sure everyone who knows her will miss her. My Dad was very fond of her as he went a long way back with her family. A long life lived is good enough and a good life lived is long enough. We shall not forget her.

My friendship with Mrs Layton's son Vic (she was always Mrs.Layton to us.)gave my family and I the pleasure of knowing her. Her gentle smile and kind ways will live on in our memories. From the earliest days on the farm on Woodstock Road, to the last few times we brought her up to our house for lunch,...9Bso many good memories. We miss you Mrs. Layton.

The first time we awoke in our new home in Salt Point many years ago, we heard a pounding noise coming from our neighbor next door. It was Edith. She had a sledge hammer and she was pounding in one of the posts on the split rail fence we had in between our properties! We went over and introduced ourselves and became friends. Edith taught us to always do things for ourselves. We shared plants and stories of flowers and gardens. She was an independent soul who loved nature, her daughter, her amazing granddaughters, her lovely grandchildren and her home. She was a lovely woman who had an independent spirit, a gentle laugh, and a twinkle in her eye. She had wonderful stories of her past and her times on her farm, and was never at a loss for words. As the years went on, Edith always remained a strong woman to us. One who could fend for herself, and be an inspiration to all who knew her. We'll miss you Edith. You were one of a kind!
