Obituary of Emmajean Kovac
Emmajean Still Kovac, 96, passed away January 11, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was born on February 21, 1915 in Stanford, NY, the daughter of Arthur and Mae Doll Still. She was the wife of former County Legislator, Paul A. Kovac he predeceased her.
Emmajean was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School and New Paltz Teachers College. She taught in the Hyde Park School District and then the Spackenkill School District for a total of thirty years until her retirement in 1973. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Christ in Poughkeepsie, NY State Retired Teachers Assoc., Dutchess County Retired Teachers Assoc., Spackenkill Retired Teachers Assoc., the Poughkeepsie Lodge #266 of Free & Accepted Masons and Dutchess County Scottish Society. Emmajean was also a Dutchess County Election Inspector for 25 years.
She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law Ellen & Claude Jacobs of Bethany Beach, DE, daughter Susan Eckrich Olney, M.D. and three grandchildren: Lindsay Jacobs, Scott Jacobs and Andrew Eckrich. Emma is also survived by her Devoted friend and loving Companion Wayne Watkins.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00am on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the First Congregational Church Poughkeepsie NY. Burial will follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery Mausoleum.
