Obituary of Peter Jurutka
Peter J. Jurutka, 91, of Poughkeepsie, NY died at home on January 29, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Born April 10, 1921 in New York City, Peter came to Poughkeepsie from NYC in 1949 with Countess Mara, Inc. Peter had been a resident of Overlook Estates in LaGrange since 1954 and over the years was an active member of the Homeowners Association. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 1302, VFW Post 6916, Pirate Canoe Club, Italian Center and the Fazool Club. For most of his life, he was employed by Countess Mara, Inc. Originally hired on April 1939 as a stock and retail clerk, he retired in 1988 as CEO & Chairman of the Board of Directors of Countess Mara, Inc. He was a member of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie where he was a member of the Sacred Heart Men's Society. He also was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Chapter of Fr. Larry Lynch Post in New York. Peter served as an instrument specialist in the Army Airforce from June 1942 to February 1946 holding the rank of sergeant. Before his honorable discharge, he served in the Pacific in Guam and Hawaii. He was the son of Mary Sluka and Henry Jurutka and attended school at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Stuyvesant High School in NYC. On June 6, 1942 he married his grade school sweetheart, Elizabeth (Betty) Bradac, who passed away in November, 1958. Peter and Betty had six children. On July 7, 1960 Peter married Catherine Mazzetti, his devoted wife of 52 years. Catherine's two children joined the family making a household of eight children - all graduates of Holy Trinity School system. They are the late Elizabeth Marchese of Pleasant Valley, NY who passed away September, 2008; Belinda Monaster of Lake Carmel, NY; Judith Jurutka of Fishkill, NY; Paul Jurutka of Belfast, ME; Peter S. Jurutka of Carmel, NY; Helen Ashton of Clinton Corners, NY; Karen Jurutka of Salt Point, NY and John Jurutka of Red Hook, NY. Peter dedicated his life to his religion and his family. He is survived by a brother, Henry Jurutka of California, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by one grandson, Peter John Monaster. Visitation will be held on Friday February 1, 2013 from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Saturday February 2, 2013 at Holy Trinity Church, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
