Obituary of Earl Lauria
Earl J. Lauria Sr. 79, a lifelong area resident passed away Sunday, February 17 at home with his family by his side.
Earl was born on April 8, 1933 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was the son to the late Charles and Agnes Brenner Lauria. On October 14, 1951 Earl married Lorraine Langert at the Heading Methodist Church, Poughkeepsie, NY.
Earl was an active member of his community, affiliated with many different associations. He was a two time commander in the American Legion post #1302, he was a member of the Elks club as well as the Italian Center. He was a lifetime member of the Lagrange Fire Department, Captain of the Lagrange Rescue Squad, and a member of the Freedom Plains Grange. He was the Chief of the Dutchess County Civil defense, President of the Dutchess County Ambulance Association. Earl also dedicated 37 years to the National Guard 156 Field Artillery retiring as 1st Sergeant. Earl dedicated his life to volunteering his time for his state and community.
Earl was predeceased in life by his son, David Lauria in July of 1959, Sisters, Nance Dorn, Marie Sloan and Mildred Fells, and his Brother, Frank Lauria.
Earl is survived by his Wife, Lorraine Lauria of Pleasant Valley, NY, Daughter Sharron Polluzzi and husband Richard of Pleasant Valley, NY, Daughter, Debra Marsden and husband William of Red Hook, NY, Son, Earl Lauria Jr. and wife Ann of Wake Forest, NC, Daughter, Patricia Lauria and husband Brion Vanvalkenburgh of Hyde Park, NY and Son Arthur Lauria and partner Sue Schimpf of Poughkeepsie, NY, Sister Patricia Halpin of Wappinger's, NY, and Sister Kathryn Cimorelli and husband Peter of Hyde Park, NY. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Hospice or Freedom Plains Church.
Calling hours will be held at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc. Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 12noon at the funeral home. Entombment will take place at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery in the mausoleum.
