I certainly have fond and grateful memories of Roger and Alice who were excellent, cheerful, and enthusiastic soccer coaches. Their manner, their experience, their attitude and their warmth were terrific and perfectly suited to the little 4-year-olds just starting out with the town league. Roger and Alice were generous with their time and encouraging in their manner. Our daughter was on that Town of Poughkeepsie Soccer Club team of little, tiny players, and she was all new to soccer. She didn't really understand the concept of competition, and the noise of the whistles upset her. Roger and Alice allowed her to play with her dad on the field near her as moral support in the beginning. If she could hang onto my husband's pants leg or his hand, she was much calmer. At about the point that my husband and I wondered if we should take our daughter out of soccer until she was older, Anastasia began to understand how to play the game and started to enjoy herself. I was really glad that our daughter had such sweet, patient, relaxed, and understanding coaches when she was a very small first-year player! I really appreciate the investments Roger and Alice made in the ToPSC team. Because Roger and Alice helped Anastasia learn and love the game, she went on to play right on through her senior year--14 years! This would never have happened if we and our daughter had just given up on soccer when it was hard for to get into it as a little, little girl. I'm very thankful for Roger leading a welcoming and low-key team for new players of age 4! When I see those photos of my daughter's first year, I smile and think of Marrins' great skill with children. They celebrated with a pizza party at the end of the fall as though those itty-bitty players had accomplished a huge feat! Roger and Alice really knew how to have a grand season and a happy finale with those pint-sized players!
I had several opportunities to share a cup of coffee at their house including once when I had car trouble nearby them early on a cold morning. I'm thankful for kind people like Roger and Alice being of assistance to me. They make the world a better place.
