Obituary of Antonio DeBernardo

Antonio DeBernardo "Tony", age 75, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 31, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was born on September 8, 1938 in Baroli, Napoli, Italy. He is the son of the late Costanzo DeBernardo and Teresa Scotorosato DeBernardo. He attended school in Italy and later came to Poughkeepsie, NY in 1965. He worked in Coppola's Restaurant, then at Great Eastern Printing and later opened his own pizza place, Napoli Pizza, on Hamilton Street in 1972. He later moved to Hooker Avenue in 1975 until he retired in 2009. He served pizza and sandwiches for 37 years. He delivered a lot of pizzas to Vassar College. He was well loved by everyone and will be deeply missed. He was known by some as "chief" or Mr. Napoli. He is survived by his loving wife Evelyn Hunt DeBernardo and his five children, Costanzo DeBernardo and his wife Cindy, Teresa Fandel and her husband Glenn, Mary Talbot and her husband Bruce, Rose DeBernardo and Anna Devereau and her husband Adam. Also surviving are his twenty grandchildren; Anthony, Sabrina, Mercedes, Michael, Amando, Marty, Kathyrine, Jeffrey, Samantha, Jo Ann, Artemis, Teddy, Jacob, Giovanna, Carolyn, Shannan, April, Alishio, Christina and Emily and his four great-grandchildren Destyni, John, III, Tatana and Anthony. He was predeceased by one sister Maria and two brothers Vinceno, Francesco and one brother-in-law Francesco. His is survived by one brother Giuseppe and two sisters Rosaria and Anna and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 4-8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 10:00am at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie and burial will follow at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
