Obituary of Peter Vanikiotis

Peter Vanikiotis, age 51, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014. He was born on December 2, 1962 in Skoteini, Greece to Nicholas and Maria Vanikiotis. Peter came with his family to this country in 1974 where he attended Poughkeepsie High School. In 1981, he and his family opened their first restaurant, The Palace Diner on Washington Street in Poughkeepsie. For the next thirty years, he and his family worked closely to open up several other restaurants in Dutchess and Ulster Counties. Peter was predeceased by his father Nicholas Vanikiotis and is survived by his mother Maria Vanikiotis, his son Nicholas P. Vanikiotis and daughter Maria P. Vanikiotis. He is also survived by his brothers Theodore Vanikiotis and his wife Roseanne, and daughter Maria Teresa, Constantinos Vanikiotis and his wife Elizabeth and their three sons Christopher, Michael and Zachary, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. The funeral will take place on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 10:00am at the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church. Burial will follow in the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
