Aunt Helen was a special person; she always made me laugh and was extremely funny. I have so many memories of my aunt from Jamaica going to Rockaway beach every day, living in Poughkeepsie and her beautiful garden, she had a green thumb. She grew all the vegetable that you could possibly imagine. She sang, danced played guitar, told jokes, grew vegetables, cooked, among her many talents...I remember when we moved to Long Island we stayed at her home. She made a great homemade filo dough and lokomathes in the stove in the basement. She could have been a singer and was very musically inclined.. She sang beautifully and even wrote her own songs. Funny ones at that. Some of her songs were a little politely incorrect but that is what made them funny .Along with her funny side, and singing side she always had a kind caring side. My aunt was a great comfort to me when I was sick. She called me every day and as sick as I was in the hospital and at home she always made me laugh. She told me that I would be ok and sent me a beautiful icon to watch over me... She lived in Florida for a short time and I used to visit her often. I remember the great love she had for her children. Vivian was a great daughter and did so much for her mother. She had just moved into her apartment and she was so proud to show me that Vivian had decorated it and had put Christmas decorations up. She kept saying Vivian loves me so much look how nice she decorated. She called her son Andrew a levendi and was so proud of the man that he had become. He had two beautiful daughters, (her granddaughters) which she loved as well. She looked forward to Andy coming to visit her on the weekends she also had great grand children that she though the world of. She always said how cute they were but could not pronounce their names. Aunt Helen had a kind heart and beautiful sprit. I just had a little laugh to myself just now. I remember when she lived in Tarpon springs I had made some spinach pie and took some over to her. She tasted it and said you call this spinach pie; this is terrible this belongs in the garbage. When I told others about this they said yes, yes finally someone told you the truth, stop making it, it is terrible and no one wants to eat it. You could always count on Aunt Helen to tell it like it is. I am sure she is telling it like it is in heaven, and being very entertaining. Aunt Helen will be missed and may she RIP and have eternal live in heaven and watch over us. I will always have a special place in my heart for my aunt and her spirit will live on.
