Obituary of Ingvar-Erich Lantzky

LTC Ingvar-Erich (Ivan) Lantzky, LaGrangeville, NY--LTC Ingvar-Erich Lantzky passed away on August 6, 2015 at the Castle Point Veterans Administration Hospital in Fishkill, NY. He is survived by his long-time friend and loving partner of 25 years, Jeanette, his daughters, Kasenia and Karania, his cousins in Estonia and his loving family of 4 sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, his 7 nieces and nephews and his 4 great nieces and nephews . We will all miss him greatly. Ivan was born in Germany in 1945 and emigrated to the U.S. with his parents Erik and Vera in 1951. They settled in the Bronx where Ivan attended McBurney Prep in NYC and then graduated Fordham Univ., Bronx, NY in 1967. Col. Lantzky joined the U.S. Army in 1968, served in the Vietnam War from 1969-1971 in active combat as a Green Beret with the Special Forces. He was CIB and Airborne. He received 2 Bronze Star Medals with Valor, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, 2 Army Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal (3 Stars), Vietnam Service Medal (60 Device), Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon (2nd Award), and Armed Forces Reserve Medal (2nd Award). He was ordered to active duty in support of Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He received the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Army Service Ribbon, Spanish Foreign Legion Parachute Wings, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Bronze Star and Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm. In 1992, Ivan graduated from the Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, PA. Since 1991, Ivan has been a life member of the Veteran Corps of Artillery in NYC. He was promoted to Chief of Staff in Jan. 2015 and to full Colonel on July 4, 2015. Ivan was also a member of the Special Forces Assn., Chapter 66 at West Point, NY where he served as Vice President. In 2002, he joined as a volunteer firefighter in the LaGrange Fire District, member of Co. 2, in the town of LaGrange where he served for 13-1/2 yrs. He became an EMT and Fire Police Lieutenant in 2009, and from 2007-2011 served as Fire Commissioner. He also worked as a Court Officer for the Town of LaGrange serving under Judge Greller and Judge Egitto. He will be truly missed by all his family, friends and soldiers. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, August 15 at 12:00 noon at the American Legion Post, No. 1302 at 55 Overlook Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA., date to be determined. Donations can be made to Castle Point Veterans Admin.
