Obituary of Donald Cleverley
Donald S. Cleverley, 80, a 50 year resident of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Donald was born on July 3, 1935 in Worcester, MA to the late Clyde and Ethel Stone Cleverley. He married Luella Patsos on April 25, 1965 in Syracuse, NY, who survives at home. In addition to his wife, Donald is survived by his son Bradley Cleverley, daughter-in-law Cristina, grandsons Alec and Austin of Chester, NY, and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his son, Russell S. Cleverley, and brother, Craig.
Donald received his Bachelor of Science from Northeastern University, and Master of Science from Syracuse University, both in Electrical Engineering. He was employed as an electrical engineer at IBM East Fishkill until his retirement in 1993. Donald was a member and former elder of the Arlington Reformed Church in Poughkeepsie, IEEE, ASQ, and Ralph's Peak Hikers. Donald was also a ham radio operator, call sign AA2OI, and loved hiking and photography. He achieved Eagle Scout and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 60 years. As a leader, he chaired the Webelos Eskimo Run for many years. In recognition of his service to Scouting, he received, among others, the Taconic District Award of Merit and Dutchess County Council Silver Beaver awards. He continued to work on staff at Camp Nooteeming into his early 70s.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Monday, May 23, 2016 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Funeral service will follow calling hours on Monday at 12:00 pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will follow in the family plot at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Russell S.
