Obituary of Dr. Ian Portelli
Dr. Ian Portelli, 39, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died May 25th 2018.
He was born December 18TH 1978 in Gozo, Malta and obtained his nursing degree at the University of Malta and Trinity College in Dublin.
As a forever scholar he continued to obtain his masters and pediatric nurse practitioner degree with a specialty in biogenetics from the University of Manchester, PhD in research and statistics from NYU followed by a post doc in Disaster Medicine from NYU and post doc in Medical Informatics from Columbia University, for which he is this years Valedictorian.
He was awarded the international Breitling Award for research in Development for 2014-2015 and is again in the running for the award for 2017-2018. He was also awarded the CBRNE World Award for the 2012 Fifth international Annual in London as well as the Department of Homeland Security, Emergency Management/Project Management award in 2009.
In his most recent position as the AVP of operations, Medical Research and Trauma for Health Quest he was the main player in the development of the research department at VBMC and the initiation of VBMC first Trauma program. He had numerous faculty positions including Assistant Professor of department of Emergency Medicine at NYU school of Medicine, Adjunct assistant Professor at Oxford Medical School at Oxford University. He was also the chief scientific editor of the Crisis Response Journal UK, Junior editor for the British Medical Journal as well as a reviewer for numerous other journals. He has written numerous articles and book chapters as well as lectured all over the world.
Ian is survived by his wife of 15 years Paula and sons Tylor and Cole, his parents Saviour and Elizabeth, Sister Anita and Brother George.
Visitation will take place from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday May 30, 2018 at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Thursday May 31, 2018 at Holy Trinity Church 775 Main Street Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. Burial will be taking place at a later date in Malta.
