Obituary of Mary Ann Shanley

Mary Ann Shanley, age 82, of town of Poughkeepsie, died Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie NY.  Mary Ann was born July 29, 1938 in Troy, NY. She is the daughter of the late Michael and the late Anna (Yacevich) Korin.  She married Timothy Joseph Shanley on August 21, 1960 at St Nicholas Ukranian Catholic Church of Watervliet, NY.

Mary Ann was a loving and dedicated wife to Timothy for over 60 years, a devoted mother of 6, and a proud grandmother of 14. After her marriage, Mary Ann relocated with Timothy to Poughkeepsie, where she was a local resident for the remainder of her life. Her family was the light of her life, and she treasured family activities, holidays and memorable vacations, especially to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. She loved raising and teaching children. She and Timothy also raised their grand daughter, Lori Shanley of Boston MA.  Mary Ann enjoyed collecting children's books, reading, bird watching, flower arranging, sewing, antiquing and furniture restoration. 

Mary Ann is survived by her husband Timothy of Poughkeepsie, NY, along with four daughters and two sons:  Eileen (Shanley) McAliney and her husband Jim McAliney of Malvern, PA; Timothy M. Shanley and his wife Darlene (Barbera) of Orange, CT; Colleen Shanley and her life partner, the late Brian Dunn of Kingston, NY; Karen (Shanley) Whitehead and her husband Carl Whitehead of Poughkeepsie, NY; Jean Shanley and her husband Michael Colatrella of Sacramento, CA,  and Dr. David Shanley, MD. of Seattle, WA.  

Grandchildren include: Maureen, James, Erin and Brendan McAliney; Amanda (Shanley) Thompson, Nicholas, Sarah and Kristen Shanley; Lori Shanley; Lauren, Adam and Mikaela Whitehead; Anna and Jonathan Colatrella.

Mary Ann is also survived by her two sisters, Barbara (Korin) Sharpe and her husband Thomas Sharpe of Saratoga Springs, NY; and Doris (Korin) Rafferty of Troy, as well as many more nieces and nephews.   

Calling hours will be Friday, January 15, 2020 from 10:00am-Noon at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY.  

The funeral mass will be held at 12:30pm on Friday, January 15, 2020 at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial will be immediately following at St. Peters Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.
