I first met Donald many years ago while working as a security guard down by the riverfront in Poughkeepsie. I would come on duty at midnight to relieve Don. At the time Don was working in excess of 60 hours a week to make ends meet for his family. Nevertheless, he would spend hours walking the rounds with me into the wee hours of the morning, in the freezing cold of winter, to share his faith with me. It was a pivotal time in my life, and I owe more to Don than words can express. Don was a mentor and a friend to me at a time when I sorely needed both. He was a very special soul and this world is a bit darker now that he has left it. I pray that his family will be comforted by God in this time of loss. I am looking forward to seeing Don again someday and picking up our friendship anew in the hereafter. – Howard Salberg
