Obituary of William E. Gleason Jr.
William (Bill) E. Gleason Jr., 91, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, died at home on Saturday, March 6, 2021.
Bill was born in Poughkeepsie, New York, on May 27, 1929 to the late William E. Sr., and the late Mary Scribner Gleason. On January 9, 1949, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, he married Dolores L. Savelli.
Bill served his Country in the United States Navy and was a Police Officer for the City of Poughkeepsie. He was also a former owner of the Charter Oaks Bar and Grill and retired from Vassar College as a painter. Bill was a local resident all his life. He was a life member of the Poughkeepsie ELKS Lodge 275 and a member of St Martin DePorres Church. William loved to play Poker, enjoyed grocery shopping, cooking for his family and watching wrestling. He was a kind, honest man who offered his home to anyone in need and inspired many. He was a loving father and family meant everything to him.
Bill is survived by Dolores, his wife of 72 years, his two daughters, Sharon Courselle and her husband Donald of Poughkeepsie, Colleen Wilkinson and her husband Peter of Pleasant Valley, his grandchildren, Nicole Goodfellow (Aaron), Amber Courselle (Christian Perry), Jordan Wissinger (Brian), Cody Wilkinson (Nicole), his great grandchildren, Hayden, Daisy, Colbie, Oliver, Blake and Brantley. Bill is also survived by his sister, Judith Pedatella and was predeceased by two sisters, Shirley Williams Seaman and Lillian Robinson.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 from 5pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 9:15 am at St. Martin DePorres Church with Burial to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
