I just recently learned of the passing of Louise through the Wappingers teachers union publication. Although she and I were both special ed. teachers in Wappingers, I only got to know her after I retired and started to serve on CPSE with Louise. She helped me understand my role on that committee through her patient and thorough explanations. She was unfailingly pleasant and thoughtful to everyone. At the time that we served on the preschool committee together I was also teaching a high school equivalency class for BOCES. One of my students had been a student in Louise's class at the high school. When this student talked to me she would often make reference to 'the wonderful Mrs. Hughes ' who had helped her so much. Louise was such a lovely, caring, loving teacher at Roy C. Ketcham. She was well respected for the wonderful work she did with special ed students; always had a smile for everyone. I was honored to work with her while I taught at RCK. She is surely an Angel in Heaven now. Peace to the family. Rosemary Evaul

I am saddened to hear of Louise’s passing and offer my sincere condolences to the Hughes family. In the years that I served as CPSE chairperson in Red Hook, Louise was always a welcomed addition to any meeting as the County Representative. She brought her experience as a teacher, sincere care for children, and her compassion as a person to every meeting. She will be missed and handsomely rewarded in Heaven. Dr. Sal Massa
