Obituary of Dawn Marie Cotter Groves

Dawn Marie Cotter Groves, 72, of Poughkeepsie, NY passed away peacefully on October 16, 2022. She was born on August 26, 1950, in Poughkeepsie, New York to the late Cornelius and the late Barbara (Noble) Cotter.
Dawn was a local resident all her life and a member of Holy Trinity Church Poughkeepsie.
Dawn was a graduate of Arlington High School and a graduate of Potsdam University with degrees in English and Math.
After college Dawn pursued a career in Bookkeeping. She was employed at several local businesses and ran a successful private practice.
After the loss of our mother Dawn stepped in and took over Cotter's Wine and Liquor store, the family business. As proprietor she became a fixture in Pleasant Valley and delighted in sponsoring local youth sports.
Dawn enjoyed poetry, music, and old movies. She composed a collection of poems but kept them mostly for her personal pleasure. Once in a while she would compose something whimsical for us around the holidays.
In May of 1998 she married her love James "Jim" Groves. Jim passed away in 2004.
In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her sister Alison.
Survivors include brother Brian Cotter Pleasant Valley Poughkeepsie New York, brother Patrick Cotter of Poughkeepsie, Neice Fallon Johnson, Fallon's husband Nick and their sons Nick, Max and Ben of Poughkeepsie. Stepdaughter Jennifer Groves of West New York New Jersey and stepson James Groves of Pleasant Valley NY and several loving cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday October 20, 2022, from 5pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.
Funeral Services will be held 10am Friday October 21, 2022, at the Funeral Home with Burial to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery Poughkeepsie.
