Obituary of Mia Polanchik
Mia Polanchik passed away comfortably on December 18, 2023 at the age of 69.
Mia was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on July 2, 1954. She was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, Hartwick College, and SUNY New Paltz where she received her masters in education and spent her career as a foreign language teacher at Arlington Central School District.
Mia will forever be remembered for many “Mia-isms” that make her family and friends laugh with
joy; desire and love of travel and culture, especially France and French culture; making delicious desserts like her famous chocolate mousse and Greek pastry; and showering everyone with love. Mia was an active member of her Kimisis Greek community and church and a generous benefactor to many organizations in the Hudson Valley.
Mia was predeceased by her husband, Philip Polanchik; mother Stemi Gorman and step-father Bernard; and in-laws Steve and Dorothy Polanchik. She is survived by her son (her entire world), Nicholas Polanchik and his partner Cameron Weeks; brother and sister-in-law Lee and Judie Pagones; niece Amelia Santoro, husband Rob and children Landon and Parker; nephew and godson Greg Pagones, wife Tarren and children Raegan and Tatum Maverick; nephews Alex and Tim Pagones; brother-and-sisters-in-law Paul Polanchik, Daria Polanchik, Nadine Lettini, and their families; and countless friends and relatives who filled Mia’s life with love and happiness.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc. 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Funeral Services are on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 10:00am at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial is to follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
