Obituary of Harry C. Ashworth Jr.
Harry C. Ashworth Jr., 92, of Dutchess County, NY, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024 at Hospice House in Hyde Park, NY. He was born on December 27, 1931 in New York City, NY to the late Harry C. Ashworth and Jean (Mary Jane) Ashworth. He grew up in NYC and moved to Dutchess County in 1962. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Bunting.
He served for four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He received a Korean Service Medal, a United Nations Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was stationed in Washington D.C., New York, Florida and Okinawa, Japan. He maintained a lifelong love of airplanes and was an avid radio-control pilot both in New York and later in Virginia.
He married Irene Mason in 1957. He is greatly loved and survived by their five children who all grew up in Hopewell Junction: Barbara Ashworth-Costakis; Diane (Michael) Branson; Deborah (Peter) Elder; Lisa Ashworth-Monaco; Harry C. (Laura) Ashworth III He is also survived by eight Grandchildren and nine Great-Grandchildren.
Harry was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 137 for most of his life. He was an excellent mechanic and loved to fix anything.
He spent his later years with companion, Elizabeth Boggan, when they moved to Virginia. She survives at her home in Virginia.
For the last year, he was a resident of The Landing of Poughkeepsie, where he made a lot of dear friends.
Harry will be remembered for his charming personality and his strength, courage and love for his family and friends.
Friends and family may call at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603, on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 10 AM to 12 Noon. Interment will be at a later date.
