Obituary of Rosemarie Beatrice Wright

Rosemarie Wright (nee Sgaramella), 74 passed away on May 23, 2024, after a long illness.  She retained her sense of humor during her courageous fight.

She was born in Mount Vernon on October 9^th, 1949,  to the late Joseph and Martha Sgaramella. As a young girl her family moved to Pleasant Valley, where she grew up on a chicken farm.  A graduate of Arlington High School, she was interested in sociology and helping people.  On October 15, 1972, she married David Wright of Stanfordville, NY.

She worked for New York State for most of her career but will probably be most remembered for her time working at Overlook Elementary School as a teaching assistant.   She was always talked into being the pitcher at every kickball game.  Her love of children and leadership skills made her the perfect person for Cub Scouts.  She was Committee Chairwoman and Den leader for thirty years.  

She was a collector – Rose never met a tchotchke or knickknack she didn’t like!  Her spoon collection was immense – everyone knew to bring one back for her from their travels. Catalogs and romance novels were her reading material of choice – there were always stacks waiting to be read.  Spring & summer were her favorite seasons – as she loved to plant tomatoes and flowers.  There were never too many!  A lover of animals - her pets over the years included dogs, cats, goldfish, birds, rabbits & gerbils.  There was always room for strays at her house.

Rose also loved to bake – her cookies, homemade pizza, ziti and her famous Christmas & Easter breads were real crowd-pleasers.  She shared them lovingly with friends and family. She will be remembered for her generosity and willingness to help someone in need.

She was the most loving mother, always available for her kids whenever they needed her.  Being a mother was the most important thing in her life, until she became a grandmother.  She retired soon after – enjoying every moment she spent with her granddaughter.  Nobody in her family ever doubted how much she loved them through her actions and her words.

She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-one years, David Wright of Poughkeepsie, her son Matthew Wright and husband Justin of New York City, her daughter Mandy Wright of Highland, NY and granddaughter Samantha Wright. Her brother Joseph, his wife Linda of Pleasant Valley, NY, plus many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.  

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2024, from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday May 30, 2024 11 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Pleasant Valley, NY. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery Salt Point Turnpike Poughkeepsie, NY
