Obituary of Robert P. Legacy

Robert P. Legacy 73 of Poughkeepsie Passed away at home on September 6, 2024.
Born in Malone, NY on November 19,1950, he was the son of Paul Joseph Legacy and Lillian Dorothy Vaincourt Legacy.
Bob was a Graduated from Gouverneur High School, AA Degree from Jefferson Community College, and BA Degree in Sociology from Plattsburgh State University.
He worked for Wassaic Developmental Center from 1972 until retirement in 2008. While there he worked in various positions including Mental Hygiene Therapist, Program Specialist, Program Coordinator, Day Habilitation Program Manager and, lastly, Compliance Coordinator. He was responsible for program development and wrote the program “Winning Ways” which resulted in the opening of Wassaic’s first community- based Day Habitation centers. He later became Executive Director of the Arlington Business Improvement District where he was responsible for managing the Arlington Farmer’s Market, planning the Arlington Street Fair and other Arlington Special Events.
Bob became the CYO Director at Holy Trinity where he developed and organized the summer and winter basketball programs for many years. He also developed the only instructional co-ed track program for youth in Dutchess County.
He spent many years involved extensively in the community including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Marathon Project, umpiring and serving as the Secretary for Hudson Valley Softball Umpires Association, Community Liaison for the Town of Poughkeepsie Community Day Committee, Annual Community Day and served as Chair for the Annual Parade. He served as Temporary Chair of the Greater Poughkeepsie Youth Resource Coalition. He was also on the United Way Board and volunteered once a week for the Lunch Box Program, which is a part of Dutchess Outreach.
** Bob always believed he was blessed to work, volunteer, and grow with so many wonderful people who shared their talents to make their community a better place.
 He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Poughkeepsie. He was an avid sport’s fan of the New York Teams: the Yankees, Knicks and Giants. He also supported Marist College Sports.
Survivors of Bob are Lillian Legacy, mother, Gouverneur, NY, Sisters: Diane and Ed Wilson, North Syracuse, NY, Judy and Clarence Weaver and Mary and Lyle Fuller of Gouverneur, NY. Godson; Shakor Smith, Poughkeepsie, NY., He has several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Memorial Donations can be made in Bob’s name to St. Peter’s Church or Hospice of Dutchess County.
Visitation will be held on September 12, 2024 from 5pm to 8pm at Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday September 13, 2024 at 9:45am at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel- St. Peter’s Church, 185 Hudson View Drive, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. 
Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 171 Salt Point Turnpike, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
