Obituary of Tina T Haggett

Tina Haggett, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, at the age of 82, surrounded by family.  She was born on March 15, 1942, in Ritsumazijl, the Netherlands to Joseph and Tina Toussaint.  Tina, together with her parents and two younger brothers, bravely emigrated to the United States in December 1956 and she was naturalized as a US citizen November 3, 1965.  She graduated from Newton High School (New Jersey) in 1961.  While perfecting the art of SUPER MOM, Tina also worked in multiple professions, including the administration offices of the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center, Tektronix, Prudential, Clemson University, and the Spackenkill School District.

On October 6, 1962, Tina married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, James Haggett, and together they shared over 60 years of love and partnership.  She grew up with a deep love for her heritage, which she carried with her throughout her life.  Jim and Tina enjoyed their multiple trips to the Netherlands and other parts of Europe to travel and spend time with her friends and family.  Tina was an active member of The Reformed Church of Poughkeepsie.  She regularly volunteered for church events and enjoyed teaching vacation bible school.  Tina was an avid gardener and reader, and appreciator of fine art.  She was active in aerobics and enjoyed volunteering at the Hudson Valley Tourism Center.

Tina loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  She enjoyed being waterfront and loved vacationing at the beach, including being oceanfront in Cape Ann, MA and viewing the Hudson River from the Pirate Canoe Club.

Tina is survived by her husband, Jim Haggett IV; son, Jim Haggett V and his wife, Laura, of Garner, NC; son, Evan Haggett and his wife Andria, of Charlotte, NC; and grandchildren Nicole, Jared, Jenna, and Sarah.  Also surviving are her brother Pete Toussaint and his wife Sharon, of Austin, TX; and her brother Andy and his wife Cindy, of Gettysburg, PA.; and extended family in the United States and the Netherlands.

A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at The Reformed Church of Poughkeepsie.  Visitation will begin at 9:30am and an interment ceremony will take place at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery immediately following the memorial service.
