Joan Decker Sinon

Obituary of Joan M Decker Sinon

Joan Decker Sinon, a lifelong area resident, died peacefully at home on October 15, 2024 surrounded by her beloved family. Joan was born on June 8, 1935, to Clarence and Helen (Clark) Decker in Poughkeepsie, NY.  Joan graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952 and the Kingston City Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.

On November 26,1955 Joan married Stewart Sinon at Christ Church in Poughkeepsie. Stu predeceased her in April 2007.  Together, Joan and Stu built a family farm and business that continues to operate today. For many years, friends and family gathered at the farm, and each day ended with a hearty, homemade meal around Joan’s table.

Joan began her nursing career at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.  Although she worked in various types of nursing, she was most proud of her time as a nursing instructor in the Dutchess County B.O.C.E.S. LPN program.  Joan was known as an exceptional nursing instructor who expected from her students the same level of excellence, ethics and professionalism that she herself exhibited as a nurse. Joan’s legacy as a nurse is surely alive and well, as the family still hears stories from her former students who credit their nursing skills to Mrs. Sinon.

Whether Joan was at her fishing cabin in Ellenville, on the beach in Fort Myers or on a roll at the Blackjack tables, she thoroughly enjoyed her retirement with family and friends.

Joan is survived by her son Mike (Angela), daughter Colleen (Ray Greco), son-in-law David Anduze. Grandchildren Katie (Sharon), Patrick (Regina), Megan (Shawn), Lindsey, Melanie, Kayli, Danny (Sammi), Jenni (Logan) and Shane. 9 Great Grandchildren. Her sister-in-law Joyce Bernasconi, brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Colleen Sinon, several nieces and nephews, and her devoted puggle, Joey.  In addition to her husband, Joan is predeceased by her daughter Kathi, her son James, and her brother Ed and sister-in-law Mary and her brother George.
