Obituary of Joseph R. Coratti

Joseph R. Coratti, 74, of Palm, Coast, FL, previously from Poughkeepsie, passed away in Florida on January 2, 2025.

Joe was born in Poughkeepsie on November 1, 1950 to the late John and the late Grace Giamportone Coratti.

Joe was a graduate of Roosevelt High School Class of 1968 and Dutchess Community College.

On September 2, 1973, at St. Mary’s Church, Poughkeepsie, Joe married Karen McCaffrey, to whom he was happily married for 51years.

Joe had owned many businesses in his career, including Armadillo Clothing, Oasis Beverages, The Brier Patch, and The Italian Deli. He also worked for Prudential Insurance for several years.

When Joe decided that accounting was what he loved, he worked for Rinaldi Tax for a few years, then went out on his own. He worked out of his home for about 25 years, during which he earned his EA designation. In 2009, he bought a building and became the owner of Coratti Professional Services, Inc in Hyde Park, with his son, Joey, as his partner. He continued to be a vital part of the business right up until the end.

Joe was a member of the Poughkeepsie ELKS BPOE 275, the Italian Center, Holy Trinity Church Poughkeepsie, and St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Palm Coast, FL.

Joe was the Past President of the Town of Poughkeepsie Little League, past safety coordinator of the Town of Poughkeepsie Little League, past President of the Dutchess Youth Hockey League and was an inductee of the Dutchess County Sports Hall of Fame.

Joe loved playing his drums and singing. He was a proud member of the Rock and Roll group, Stark Raven for over 25 years. Joe was also an active part of the FDR Class of ‘68 Reunion Committee.

Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Karen of Palm Coast, Florida, son and daughter in-law, Michael and Cheryl Coratti of Feeding Hills, MA., daughter, Rachael Coratti and her companion, Carson Redick of Palm Coast, Florida, son, Joey Coratti and his companion, Michelle Belanger of Poughkeepsie, grandchildren, Dylan, Drew, Gavin, Raleigh, Bianca, and  Sean, sister and brother in-law, Debra and Eric Velie of Poughkeepsie, sister in-law, Sharon Coratti of Palm Coast, Florida, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Bruce Nichols of Windham, NY, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rick and Kathy McCaffrey of Poughkeepsie, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, John “Buster” Coratti.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Holy Trinity Church, 775 Main Street Poughkeepsie, New York.

Burial will follow at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, South Road, Poughkeepsie, New York.

Donations can be made to The American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society.
